Shatta Wale Drops Bombshell: Explains Why He Stays Local While Other African Stars Chase Global Shows

Ghanaian dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale has sparked a massive debate across the African music industry after detailing why he refuses to hustle for international tours like his Nigerian counterparts Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido. Dropping a massive financial bombshell, the outspoken artist revealed that he feels zero pressure to cross borders because his local dominance easily commands a staggering $1 million fee per show right at home in Ghana.

Speaking about his career, the singer said he has always seen himself as an international star and believes he can earn as much as $1 million in Ghana because of the country’s strong appreciation for music and entertainment.

“I didn’t get rich anywhere, I got rich in Ghana,” he said, explaining that he enjoys immense respect from political leaders, ministers, event organisers and fans across the country.

According to him, the treatment he receives in Ghana is comparable to the respect global music icons such as Jay-Z and Beyoncé receive elsewhere, adding that organisers ensure his shows are properly funded and professionally executed.

Shatta Wale said the earnings from performances in Ghana have enabled him to live comfortably for more than a decade, noting that some overseas offers do not match what he can make at home.

He added that when promoters in cities like London offer him between £20,000 and £30,000 for a show, he often declines because the financial returns are not as attractive as those available in Ghana, where he says promoters invest heavily in entertainment and reward artists accordingly.
