"God Completely Vindicated Me" — Diezani Alison-Madueke Speaks Out After Shocking UK Acquittal

Former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has declared that God has “completely vindicated” her after a United Kingdom court acquitted her of all corruption-related charges following a lengthy trial.

Speaking after the verdict delivered on Wednesday by Southwark Crown Court in London, Alison-Madueke expressed relief that the legal battle, which lasted more than a decade, had finally come to an end.

“I am deeply relieved. My name is cleared. This nightmare is over,” she said in a statement. “I thank God Almighty for His faithfulness and for completely vindicating me.”

The former minister, who served under ex-President Goodluck Jonathan between 2010 and 2015, was first arrested in London in October 2015. British prosecutors later charged her with five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.

She was accused of receiving more than £100,000 and other benefits from oil and gas executives seeking lucrative contracts. Prosecutors alleged that the benefits included private jet trips, chauffeur-driven vehicles, luxury goods, the use and maintenance of a London property, and payment of her son’s school fees.

Alison-Madueke stood trial alongside Ayinde Olatimbo Bukola and Agama Doye. The trial commenced in January 2026, with the former minister consistently denying all allegations.

After more than 46 hours of jury deliberations, the court found her not guilty on all counts.

“For eleven long, gruelling years, this case has hung over my head and has tormented me and my family,” she said. “Today, the past decade of relentless and unjust vilification, condemnation and scrutiny has finally come to an end.”

Despite her acquittal in the UK, Alison-Madueke still faces pending corruption and money laundering cases in Nigeria.
