Digital Crackdown: Two Nigerian Citizens Arrested in Libya Following Controversial Online Posts

Authorities in Libya have reportedly detained two Nigerian nationals for allegedly creating and sharing what has been described as “provocative and culturally insensitive” content on social media platforms.

Libyan security operatives have arrested two Nigerian nationals in the coastal town of Qarabouli over allegations of sharing provocative content on social media.

According to a report by The Libya Observer on Wednesday, the suspects were taken into custody after authorities accused them of distributing videos and other online materials considered inflammatory and capable of encouraging vi%lence and criminal acts.

Officials said the content violated Libyan laws and was viewed as a threat to public safety, security, and national stability.

The authorities confirmed that charges have been filed against both individuals and that the necessary legal procedures have been completed. The suspects have now been referred to the Public Prosecution Office for further investigation and possible prosecution under Libya’s criminal justice system.

Although the identities of the Nigerians were not disclosed, the development highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media in Libya, where authorities have stepped up monitoring of online activities deemed harmful to national security.
