49-Year-Old Suspected Dr¥g Tr@fficker Arrested With 47,200 ‘Jihadi Dr¥g’ Pills As NDLEA Seizes 3.9 Million Opi%d Tablets Worth ₦6.2BN In Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 47,200 Capt@gon pills and 3.9 million opi%id tablets worth over ₦6.2bn at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the Capt@gon was seized on August 22 after 49-year-old Akinbile Kazeem Aikins arrived from Accra, Ghana, on an Africa World Airlines flight. A search of his carton of “Ghana Soap” allegedly uncovered 47,200 Capt@gon pills hidden inside the soap, valued at over ₦1.5bn. Aikins reportedly said he was to deliver them in northern Nigeria. C@ptagon is dubbed the “Jihadi dr¥g” over its reported use in funding extremist activities. NDLEA first intercepted it in Nigeria in 2021 at Apapa Port.

Separately, 3,900,030 Tr@making 225mg and Tap+ntadol 250mg tablets, weighing 2,787.40kg and worth over ₦4.6bn, were recovered from four abandoned airport consignments. Three contained 900,000 Tr@making tablets each from Bangladesh on RwandAir, while 3,000,030 Tap+ntadol tablets arrived from Amsterdam on Qatar Airways. They were later examined with Customs and other stakeholders on August 28.

A 31-year-old US returnee, Sowunmi David Oludotun, was also arrested in Lekki with 3.35kg of Lo¥d allegedly imported from the UK. In Rivers, NDLEA recovered 237g Col%rado, 316g coc+ine and 10g her%in from a safe. In Ondo, five suspects were arrested with 1,069kg of sk¥nk, while Delta officers recovered over 176,000 assorted opi%id pills.
