If I become Nigeria’s president, my defense minister will be a drone — Activist Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has once again stirred debate online after declaring that if he becomes Nigeria’s president, his minister of defence would be “a drone.”

Sowore made the remark during an interview on Arise TV while speaking on the country’s security challenges and the need to embrace technology in tackling t+rrorism and insecurity.

According to him, Nigeria must adopt short-term security measures that involve advanced technology, competent military leadership and a more focused police force.

“So let’s take it this way. There are short-term measures that must be taken regarding security,” Sowore said.

“To get these guys out of wherever they’re hiding, make sure that we pursue and liquidate them, we have to have equipment, we have to use technology, we have to have honest leaders and supervisors and officers who are not staying in Abuja f+ghting over lands but are actually f+ghting w@rs.”

He also criticised the current use of the police, saying officers should focus on internal security instead of “escorting people or arresting people for ins¥lting people on Facebook.”

Sowore emphasized, “And I have said it, and I’ll repeat it here again, to the utter surprise of everybody, that if I become Nigeria’s president tomorrow, my minister of defense will be a drone. That’s how much I believe in technology.”

Reacting to the statement, the show host suggested that artificial intelligence could also play a role in national defence.

“That’s part of it,” Sowore responded. “I’m just going to have a control center where people sit down and just track t+rrorists and liquidate them.”
