I Do the Cooking at Home Because Cooking Is Not My Wife’s Thing— Banky W

Nigerian singer and rapper Olubankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, has shared insights into how domestic responsibilities are handled in his home with his wife, actress Adesua Etomi-Wellington.

Speaking on The Teju Babyface Show, the music star addressed reactions to a viral video of him cooking sausages, eggs, and bacon, which had sparked conversations online about traditional gender roles in marriage.

He explained that their arrangement is based on personal preference rather than societal expectations, adding that he enjoys cooking while his wife is not particularly inclined towards it, even though she is capable.

Banky W said, “There are some men, my wife must cook for me. My wife does not really cook, which she can cook very well, but it’s not her thing.”

He further noted that what works in his home may not apply to others, stressing the importance of individual understanding in relationships.

“See the way God works, right? I Iove cooking. Like I enjoy cooking and I love eating and she loves eating. And it just means that if you come to our house, there are some people that will come and see me cooking and they’ll be like, ah, what’s going on. It will make some people uncomfortable but it works for us.”

He concluded by advising couples to avoid living under societal pressure, saying, “And I think that’s the thing that people in marriage need to understand, is like what works for you will be different from somebody else. So don’t live your life by somebody else’s expectations or rules.”
