First of, he did not repeat verbatim his book on CS4 as some lazy authors would have, but instead teaches the new advantages of CS5 while giving you great lessons on zend frame work, cms and so on.

The examples used are very practical and can be applied directly to your work unlike some books I have read where the examples are only of the authors imagination and you would be pressed to find a way to apply them. He puts to practice his experience with the forums he moderates and shares that experience with you.

It would have taken me at least 2 years to get all the experience shared in this book. I can’t believe I even offer solutions to questions in forums now, why?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge David. This book though is for intermediate users. Beginners should please buy his CS4 book first and then see this book as a continuation of that. Top it off with his CSS book and maybe his php solutions book if you want to be interested in php and then you can call yourself a web designer that knows his stuff. Intermediate users of Dreamweaver would find this book very valuable. Do you want to style wordpress CMS in dreamweaver, then get this book.

Do you want to get interested in the Zend framework and jQuery framework, then this book is for you. Finally if you want great tips on how to use DW, then add this to his CS4 book. If Mr Powers happen to read this review, my only request is that he should please come out with something in the line of questions and solutions in building web sites, so we can benefit from his experience with the questions and answers he always come across in the forums.

Anyway, this would do for now. Thank you Kelly. I like the books written by David Powers. This book’s scope is even wider than Dreamweaver itself. It also provides good fundations or reminders on PHP and database design. The examples are easy to follow along, with the inclusion of all the files for every steps in the CD-rom If you want to use Dreamweaver for PHP solutions, you need this book.

Very good book!!!!! I was sufficiently impressed to pay for the upgrade to CS5. This alone made the book worth while. The real surprise, though, was the simple introduction to Zend Framework. I have purchased several books on this already but usually get stuck on setting up the MVC framework.

The gentle Zend ‘Lite’ approach was excellent, and has meant that I have broken through the barrier and am already using Zend elements in my projects. David is an excellent tutorial writer. He explains things in carefully thought out chunks, covers the little niggles that one invariably comes across and leaves you with a deeper understanding of the principles.

It is more than theoretical, though. Much of the code such as the user registration system is of practical use and is being used in my own web site. Highly recommended in all respects: my only complaint is that I want more. David, looking forward to and advanced version of your book!

The book was a great introduction to PHP and Dreamweaver. I wasn’t that interested in the blogging information at least now , but I still found this book thorough, interesting, and helpful. It contains both Mac and PC references to help out either designers. One frustrating element of my purchase was that the source code that the printed book contains on a disk was a bit difficult to locate for Kindle readers but it IS available.

I can’t recommend it highly enough! It has made handling database driven sites much easier for me. I’d been baffled for years trying to understand the coding of PHP sites, never quite understanding how to work them into a dreamweaver context. With this book, I’ve finally been able to understand how it’s done. I am happy to report that my original problems with downloading the eBook’s files from Peachpit have been addressed. I have changed my rating from one star to four stars.

I had purchased the Kindle eBook version on May 12th. The eBook includes a link near the last page for downloading the books files.

Unfortunately, after about 15 tries, I was unable to successfully download. The process was timing out with a message. The tutorials in the assume access to these files, so I am delighted that I can now, two days later, get on with them. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This is a great book, really useful and in depth material on PHP and Dreammweaver in general. A word of caution though. I have now bought two of David’s books published by Adobe Press and I bought the Kindle Editions because I travel a lot and wanted them with me as reference but without the bulk of the paperbacks.

Neither of the books contains a download link for the lessons mentioned in them. David contected me to let me know that the downloads are included in the Kindle edition, the link is on the penultimate page. Excellent reference manual. It sits on the other monitor whenever I am web authoring. Report abuse.

Very good book.
